Why Facebook Integration Is Coming To Netflix, But Not In The U.S.

Why Facebook Integration Is Coming To Netflix, But Not In The U.S.
The catch? U.S. users do not get the new function.
Netflix plans to Facebook integration "before our next earnings report," that is, start in the next three months. However, it will start only in Canada and Latin America first.

But in the U.S., the Video Privacy Protection Act is ambiguous as to whether anyone's permission to participate, his videos have shown, can, according to Netflix.

Interestingly, this law through Congress in 1988 and adopted by President Ronald Reagan nominated Robert Bork to the Supreme Court is video tape (remember those?) Rental history, a reporter for the Washington City Paper was from someone at Bork's video library given. The law makes no "video tape service providers" liable for the disclosure of rental information.

To get a feel for what were the legislature to think in a different era of media and technology - there was no such think as Facebook or Netflix, at the time - take a look at the picture of a senator painted "interactive television cables" after the Electronic Privacy information Center.

The law is unclear as to whether to apply it to Netflix. But a bill in the House, HR2471, was introduced that would make it clear, through the release for Netflix to Facebook. That bill is currently in the Judicial Committee.
