In Indonesia there are six ecotypes Phalaenopsis amabilis is endemic on the island of Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Java. Phalaenopsis is derived from Greek meaning phalaenos moth or butterfly and opsis means the shape or appearance.
