2 PTN Indonesia Masuk 20 Besar Asia - Kiprah perguruan tinggi di dunia maya kembali diperbarui oleh 4ICU (www.4icu.org), yang dikenal dengan World Universities Web Ranking.

Sebanyak 10.200 perguruan tinggi di 200 negara dievaluasi berdasarkan tiga kriteria, yaitu Google Pagerank, Yahoo Inbound links, dan Alexa Traffic Rank. Hasil pemeringkatan dirilis setiap semester, yaitu pada Januari dan Juli.

Pada data terbaru yang dirilis 6 Juli 2011, dua perguruan tinggi Indonesia berhasil masuk dalam daftar 20 universitas terpopuler untuk wilayah Asia, yaitu Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) dan Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

Adapun jumlah perguruan tinggi di Indonesia yang dievaluasi adalah sebanyak 154 perguruan tinggi, atau naik sebanyak 3 PT dibandingkan edisi Januari 2011, yang tercatat sebanyak 151 PT. Hanya ITB yang masuk ke dalam daftar Top 100 dunia, yaitu urutan ke-44. Selebihnya, termasuk UGM yang masuk ke dalam daftar 20 PT terbaik di Asia, tidak mampu menyusup ke dalam daftar bergengsi tersebut.

Berikut ini daftar 10 perguruan tinggi terpopuler di Indonesia menurut 4ICU (Juli 2011):
1. Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB)
2. Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)
3. Universitas Indonesia (UI)
4. Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB)
5. Universitas Gunadarma
6. Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP)
7. Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS)
8. Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI)
9. Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS)
10. Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU).

Dibandingkan pemeringkatan sebelumnya (Januari 2011), terjadi beberapa perubahan signifikan. Misalnya, UI yang sebelumnya bertengger di peringkat kedua berhasil disalip UGM. Sementara IPB lompat jauh dari peringkat 12 ke peringkat 4, mengungguli Gunadarma, UNDIP, ITS, UPI, UNS, dan USU.

Jika menilik komposisi perguruan tinggi negeri dan swasta, hanya tersisa Gunadarma yang menghuni daftar 10 besar. Sementara Universitas Bina Nusantara (Binus) yang sebelumnya berada di peringkat 8, posisinya merosot ke peringkat 19.

Pada edisi kali ini, jawara dunia masih diraih oleh MIT. Ia berhasil melengserkan jawara sebelumnya, Stanford University, yang turun ke peringkat 4. Amerika Serikat menguasai sepuluh besar dunia, dan hanya menyisakan satu perguruan tinggi di peringkat ke sepuluh, yaitu University of Cambridge dari Inggris.

Untuk wilayah asia, dominasi China juga merambah ke popularitas di dunia maya. China mewakilkan enam perguruan tingginya di sepuluh besar Asia, yang dipimpin oleh Peking University. Sedangkan Jepang hanya menempatkan satu PT, yaitu Keio University yang menempati urutan ketiga di Asia.

National University of Singapore menjadi wakil dari Asia Tenggara yang berhasil masuk Top 10 Asia, yaitu pada peringkat kelima. Dua PT lainnya yang masuk Top 10 Asia berasal dari India. Hanya dua PTN Indonesia berhasil masuk Top 100 Asia, yaitu ITB di peringkat 11 dan UGM di peringkat 17. (eh)
