Smurfs get their own day, June 25Smurfs get their own day, June 25 - Hollywood's Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation said they are coordinating events around the world as part of the Global Day Smurfs this month.

The festivities for the 25th June is scheduled, an attempt to Guinness World Records mark for the largest gathering of people as the fictional character as a little blue Smurfs, over a period of 24 hours dressed known to be set.

Other activities include a Smurfs work experience in London and a family party at New York's South Street Seaport.

"There are few characters as iconic as the Smurfs - for more than 50 years they have been icons of pop culture, appealing across generations, " Weinstock said in a statement. "Peyo creation takes time, and therefore global Smurfs celebrate is to day a fitting way for his birthday."

Peyo, born 25 June 1928. He died of a heart attack in 1992.
