Google Bought 1030 IBM Patent - Google bought 1030 patent owned by another technology giant, IBM. The move is an effort to strengthen Google's intellectual property portfolio and anticipate the possibility of lawsuits.
Thousands of patents covers a wide range of technologies. For example fabrication and architectural aspects of the key aspects of memory and computer infrastructure, including servers and routers. Several patents related to programming and databases.
"As other technology companies, sometimes we buy the patents that are relevant to the needs of our business," Google said in a statement, as reported by InformationWeek and quoted on Sunday (31/07/2011).
Google declined to reveal how much money should be paid to buy thousands of IBM's patents. IBM's own party also did not issue a comment.
In addition to strengthening the business, purchasing step is probably to protect Google from possible legal issues. They've been sued many times about the patent, for example by Microsoft who accused some of the Android technology using Microsoft patents.
"Some of the lawsuit was filed the person or company, which in essence was never created anything, others are motivated to block rival products or receive profits from the success of rival technologies," said Kent Walker, Google's Senior Vice President.
Previously, Google's attempt to buy the patents owned by Nortel, but reap failure. 6000 Nortel's patent portfolio of a number of species eventually sold USD 4.5 billion in companies which, among other coalition consisting of Microsoft and Apple.
