Giant Meteorite Discovered in China

Giant Meteorite Discovered in China
A massive space rock - was found in a remote and mountainous region in northwest China, for messages - one that could be one of the largest meteorite ever again rank.
The huge and oddly shaped rocks was in the Altai Mountains in China's Xinjiang province found, according to Sky and Telescope magazine. Earlier this month, led Zhang Baolin, a meteorite specialist study at the Beijing Planetarium, a small team, a 9,500 ft (2,900 m) summit to reports about the alleged meteorite.
"This is a huge iron meteorite," Zhang said China Central Television footage of. "It is the second-largest iron meteorite, which may cause a sensation in China and also the attention of [the] Meteorite areas worldwide. It comes from outside our solar system and it is of great value and appreciation of more scientific value."
The large brown stone protrudes from beneath a large slab of granite and the part above the ground measures about 7.5 feet (2.3 m) long and half as wide, reports Sky and Telescope.
Zhang estimates that the mass of the meteorite could be between 25 to 30 ton range, which make them known to one of the largest meteorites. If so, this space rock would be the current largest in China, a 28-ton meteorite that was discovered in 1898 surpassed in the same region, says Sky and Telescope.
Xinjiang, the discovery could be a very exciting find for the scientific community when the rock as a meteorite can provide are confirmed, Meenakshi Wadhwa, director of the Center for Meteorite Studies at Arizona State University said.
"If this be proved, in fact, as a bona fide iron meteorite, then it would certainly be an important find," Wadhwa told SPACE.com in an email interview. Since most meteorites were formed old in the vicinity of [more than] 4600000000 years, when the solar system formed, all newly discovered meteorites (regardless of size) the potential to improve scientists with some unique insights into the origins and earliest history of our solar system. "
Wadhwa, adding that the images of Xinjiang rocks that have been released so far seem to show good view of the nature of an iron meteorite.
And while to find the Xinjiang is quite large, the largest known meteorite has been a mass of about 60 tons and was found in Namibia, said Wadhwa. Other larger items include a 37-ton piece of Argentina and a 30-ton meteorite, in Greenland.Zhang and his team also found names scratched into the surface of the stone was discovered, indicating that some people in the area rocks were probably aware of the unusual existence. The etchings suspend the iron-nickel composition, said Zhang.
Further analysis will help determine if these iron meteorites and are related to one found in 1898, or if it just a coincidence that they both were found in this remote region of China. It is also not known when or how the massive rocks will be studied from its current location to be removed, says Sky and Telescope.
